BUSI 460 - Real Estate Consulting Fundamentals

Course Structure

This is a scheduled online course that is completed over 15 weeks. The weekly work typically includes reading one or more chapters, watching an instructional video, and completing a multiple choice assignment. There are two term projects required and the course ends with a written online examination.

Lesson No. 2: Creative Critical Thinking
Lesson No. 3: Decision Framing: Finding the Most Effective Question for Your Client
Lesson No. 4: Research Methods
Lesson No. 5: Making Decisions Involving Uncertainty
Lesson No. 6: Choosing the Right Decision-Making Technique
Lesson No. 7: Introduction to Forecasting in Real Estate
Lesson No. 8: Forecasting Techniques
Lesson No. 9: Demographic Forecasting and Psychographic Analysis
Lesson No. 10: Risk Analysis and Learning from Experience

Weekly Multiple Choice Assignments: 10% of final grade

Project 1: Real Estate Decision Analysis – 15% of final grade

This project applies the decision-making tools covered in Lessons 1 to 6 to a real estate scenario of your choice. You will build an influence diagram and decision tree to assist your client in resolving a real estate problem or issue.

Project 2: Evaluating Alternatives – 25% of final grade

This project continues the decision-making scenario in Project 1, building in analysis of alternatives, key drivers, forecasting, importance weighting, and risk analysis. The project concludes with a recommendation to your client towards achieving their goals and objectives.

Final Examination: Multiple choice and written questions - 50% of final grade

Statistical Software (recommended, not required)

The Addenda to the course manual presents details on statistical forecasting methods. Students wishing to delve into this subject further may consider obtaining IBM SPSS in order to follow along with the demonstrated steps.
