BUSI 221 - Real Estate Finance in a Canadian Context

Course Structure

This is a scheduled online course that is completed over 15 weeks. The weekly work typically includes reading one or more chapters and completing a multiple choice assignment. In addition, there are two projects required and the course ends with a written online examination.

Lesson No. 4 – Property Law and Contract Law
Lesson No. 5 – Mortgage Law
Lesson No. 6 – Mortgage Math Review
Lesson No. 7 – Mortgage Underwriting and Residential Borrower Qualification
Lesson No. 8 – Commercial Mortgage Underwriting
Lesson No. 9 – Mortgage Loan Repayment Plans
Lesson No. 10 – Loan Management and Refinancing Options
Lesson No. 11 – Development Financing
Lesson No. 12 – Leasehold Finance

Multiple choice assignments: 10% of final grade.

Project 1: Questions on Lessons 1-6: 20% of final grade

This project consists of research and mortgage finance calculation questions.

Project 2: Questions on Lessons 7-10 and Course Overview: 20% of final grade

This project consists of research and mortgage finance calculation questions.

Final exam: Multiple choice and short-answer written and calculation questions: 50% of final grade
