Application requirements

To be eligible for the Ch’nook Scholars Program, you must submit all of the following required documentation in addition to filling out the application form. Failure to provide any of the following will result in your application not being considered. Ch’nook is not responsible for confirmation of receipt of application or for an incomplete application. If you wish to follow up you may do so by contacting Ch’nook directly.

1. Essay (no more than 500 words)

Your essay needs to reflect the following topics:

• Introduction
• Educational goals
• Career plans
• Achievements
• Community involvement
• Contributions to community/school
• Personal challenges
• Importance of being a Ch'nook Scholar

2. Personal Biography (no more than 200 words)

3. CV/Resumé

4. Proof of First Nations, Métis or Inuit Ancestry

Proof of heritage includes a copy or scan of the following: Certificate of Indian Status; Métis Membership Card; Inuit Beneficiary Card; parent/grandparent heritage information and documents showing your relationship to them; or letter of acknowledgement from First Nation, Métis Association or Inuit agreement administrator. If there are any challenges in obtaining these documents, please contact our office for assistance.

5. Proof of full-time enrolment in a business studies program at a British Columbia post-secondary institution or at the University of Calgary

We will accept a copy or scan of the following documents: acceptance letter; enrolment letter that indicates you are currently attending full-time studies; or, official or unofficial transcripts. For the second scholarship installment to be remitted, you will be required to provide proof that you are enrolled in full-time studies during the spring term.

6. Signed Reference Letter

This has to come from someone NOT related to you, who can speak to your commitment to your community. For example, your reference letter could be provided by a volunteer organization, a teacher/professor, an Indigenous organization, a sports representative, a camp leader, a work supervisor, a church group, an Elder, etc.

7. Social Insurance Number (SIN)
