Katherine Song (MBA ‘00) is a pioneer and powerhouse in the world of international business strategy, consulting and leadership development. After completing her UBC Master of Business Administration at UBC Sauder School of Business, Song used her skills in designing powerful and innovative solutions to business needs to build a successful international career in Asia and North America, working with global companies like Boeing, McKinsey, Honeywell and China Eastern Airlines. A champion of effective and exceptional leadership, Song continues to make new tracks in and out of the business world, developing and executing training programs for global businesses through her firm Sky Vision Consulting and serving as a community builder, promoting women’s leadership and Chinese film art.

Katherine Song (MBA '00)

 

Managing Director of Sky Vision Company Ltd. & Council Member of The Royal Asiatic Society China

 

Born and raised in China, Katherine Song graduated with a UBC Master of Business Administration from the UBC Sauder School of Business in 2000. She was subsequently hired as a Financial Analyst by Boeing in Seattle WA in 2001. In 2006 Katherine relocated to Shanghai and assumed the role of General Manager and Boeing Site Leader, directing a supply chain and manufacturing program of 500 people. In 2010 she started to collaborate with McKinsey and other world-wide advisory firms on program management best practices, business strategy and leadership development. She worked with McKinsey worldwide on a variety of projects. Between 2012 – 2015 she was an Executive with Honeywell International, taking the role of APAC Director, Customer & Product Support at Honeywell Aerospace. She led a regional organization providing fleet support for more than 1,000 business aircraft and managing teams in China, Singapore, India and Australia. In 2016 Katherine began to work with GP Strategies Corporation on project management and leadership consultancy and training. Her major training and coaching clients include HSBC, Ford and China Eastern Airlines etc.

Katherine is also an active community builder and has been a speaker at various industry and community events. An advocate for women leadership, she was elected President of Expatriate Professional Women’s Society in 2007-2008. In 2019 she joined the Council of The Royal Asiatic Society in Shanghai and has served as the Documentary and Film Club convener. Currently she manages and grows her firm Sky Vision Company Ltd. and in the meantime contributes most of her free time in promoting Chinese film art.

Dr. Kai Li

 

Dr. Li is Senior Associate Dean, Equity and Diversity, Professor of Finance and holds the W. Maurice Young Endowed Chair in Finance at the UBC Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia.  

 

Dr. Li’s research focuses on the economic consequences of corporate governance mechanisms. Her current research projects explore: (1) human capital and technological synergies in mergers and acquisitions, (2) machine learning in finance and (3) rent extraction in the syndicated loans market. Her research has appeared in Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, Journal of International Business Studies and many other leading journals in Finance and Economics. She is the recipient of the UBC Killam Research Award, the UBC Sauder School of Business Research Excellence Award and the Barclays Global Investors Canada Research Award, a Senior Fellow of the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research and a Research Member of the European Corporate Governance Institute. She is/has been on the Editorial Board of Review of Financial Studies, Review of Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Financial Stability and Journal of Banking and Finance. Her research has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times, The Time Magazine, Reuters, CNBC, Bloomberg, Dow Jones Newswire, New Yorker, BBC, BNN, CBC National, National Post, Globe and Mail, U.S. News & World Report, Harvard Business Review and Yahoo! Finance.
