Amaan Banwait (BCom’09)

Co-founder and Chief Commercialization Officer, PurposeMed

Amaan is a co-founder and Chief Commercialization Officer of PurposeMed. PurposeMed delivers complex healthcare to underserved communities through various brands such as Freddie, which is Canada's largest HIV prevention service and Frida which provides mental healthcare online. PurposeMed's 150+ employees provide care to thousands of patients every month.

He was previously the co-founder of Ilara Health, a VC-backed provider of affordable diagnostics for African clinics. He was also previously a manager at the Clinton Foundation, helping the Government of Uganda scale up its HIV/AIDS programs and a consultant at Bain & Company in Toronto.

Amaan holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BCom from the UBC Sauder School of Business.

Shafiq Vallani (MBA’13, BA’05)

Partner, TELUS Pollinator Fund

Shafiq is a Partner at the TELUS Pollinator Fund, a social impact fund that invests in for-profit companies committed to driving innovation and transformative solutions to make the world a better place.

He has over 18 years of global experience in banking, private equity, management consulting, and venture capital.

Shafiq is a graduate of the University of British Columbia with both a bachelor’s degree and MBA. He is an active angel investor and mentor in the Canadian venture ecosystem and resides in Toronto, but grew up in the mountains and hockey rinks around Vancouver.
