Behavioural Insights into Business for Social Good 2024: A Roadmap for Real Change
Businesses are increasingly responding to the multiple crises we face, like climate change, social and economic inequities, and global health issues. To inspire further change that positively impacts people and the planet, the conference will propose an evidence-based, research-driven agenda for how business can lead with purpose; an informed and responsive agenda for new cross-disciplinary academic research about how business can be a vehicle for social good; and a plan for further increasing awareness and demand for business for social good among employees, customers, and the wider community.

This conference is unique in bringing together the diverse views of speakers from both academia and the business community, all with a focus on creating a dialogue around business for social good. Our featured speakers are industry and academic leaders who will share their business expertise and research insights to describe how business can benefit people and the planet.

Aaron Chatterji
Aaron “Ronnie” Chatterji, Ph.D. is the Mark Burgess & Lisa Benson-Burgess Distinguished Professor of Business and Public Policy at Duke University. Ronnie works at the intersection of academia, public policy and business, investigating the most important forces shaping our economy and society. He is the co-author of two books, “Can Business Save the Earth?” and “The Role of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Economic Growth”. Ronnie is committed to public service and has worked in both the Biden and Obama Administrations, including serving as White House CHIPS coordinator, Acting Deputy Director of the White House National Economic Council, Chief Economist of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and Senior Economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers. Ronnie has received several awards for his research, including the Kauffman Prize Medal for Distinguished Research in Entrepreneurship and the Rising Star Award from the Aspen Institute.

Tabatha Bull
Tabatha is Anishinaabe, a proud member of Nipissing First Nation. As President and CEO of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB), she is committed to help rebuild and strengthen the path towards reconciliation and a prosperous Indigenous economy to benefit all Canadians. Tabatha is often asked to provide input to the federal government and has appeared on numerous occasions in the Senate and House of the Parliament of Canada. She also advocates for the Indigenous economy through her work with various organizations, committees, and boards, including the Dexterra Group, Wigwamen Inc., CN’s inaugural Indigenous Advisory Council, and Catalyst CEO advisory board. Tabatha is dedicated to diversity and removing systematic barriers to improve opportunities for Indigenous business and women across all industry sectors. For her leadership, Tabatha was awarded 2022 CEO of the Year by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.
Research in Focus: Behavioural Insights into Business for Social Good
June 14th, 2024: 12:00pm to 5:00pm &
June 15th, 2024: 8:00am to 5:00pm
The second half of Day 1 and all of Day 2 will include research talks on topics at the intersection of behavioural science research, business, and facilitating the social good. The main audience for this portion will be academic researchers and students, although others are welcome to register to attend. Here are some examples of the types of research talks we are interested in:
- Perceptions and outcomes of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
- Encouraging Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
- Taking action toward Reconciliation
- Cause related marketing, philanthropy, promoting diversity, promoting prosocial actions, and ethical (unethical) business practices
- Unique models of business that have social impact
- Encouraging positive behaviors such as prosocial behaviors (e.g., donating money and volunteering), sustainable behaviors, citizenship behaviors, etc.
Submission Details for Research Presentations
There will be two types of presentations at the conference:
- Competitive Paper Presentations (15-minute research talks)
- Working Paper Presentations (5-minute lightning talks)
To submit a research project for presentation at the conference, please use the submission portal, which requires basic project information, a brief description for inclusion in the program, and a short abstract (approx. 500 words).
